Meeting our First Merchant of Joy
Oh my God. It was actually happening. I was settling into a flight from Brissie to Sydney. As I marveled at how far off the ground I was, it occurred to me my dream was about to come true. Dancing butterflies in my stomach quickly changed to herding elephants. And it was nothing to do with fear of plane wings snapping off or the craft spiraling into the Pacific. Nope. I'd realised my dream was about to come true and the flight made it very apparent there was no turning back! I was on my way to interview a person I’d never met, who is rather fabulous, and I was going into the interview with no experience whatsoever. NERVOUS MUCH.
On the day of the interview Sydney decided to put on its best, most bleak, wintery morning display. Desi and I stood outside Soulla's home and knocked on the door. Meanwhile the rain was pouring diagonally with razor like teeth, washing away my fresh-as-a-daisy-look makeup. Gusty winds saw to it that any efforts to contain my hair's new found freedom were futile. I just wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole.
But then something magical happened. Within a minute of Soulla opening her door all my angst had evaporated. Soulla radiated welcoming warmth and a smile so bright it almost hurt the back of my eyes. Moments later, we were also greeted by the dearest little lemony blonde kitten I’d ever seen! I'll always remember the moment we entered Soulla’s home, as we were made to feel immediately at ease, with a hot cup of essential oil tea on the ready (with added cardamom spice) and it was then I knew the ensuing hours were going to be totally fine and lots of fun.
Needless to say when Desi and I left Soulla’s home we were as high as kites. It occurred to me feelings of job satisfaction may well become feverishly addictive! Is it possible life can be enriching between Mondays and Fridays? What madness is this!
It was a joy and privilege to spend a couple of hours with this lovely, kind, generous and amazing person.
